Depending upon the internal structure and subsequent features and applicability, computer system is categorized as follows :−
1. DESKTOP COMPUTER
A computer designed to fit comfortably on top of a desk, typically with the monitor sitting on top of the computer. Desktop model computers are broad and low, whereas tower model computers are narrow and tall. Because of their shape, desktop model computers are generally limited to three internal mass storage devices. Desktop models designed to be very small are sometimes referred to as slim line models.
2. LAPTOP COMPUTER
A laptop computer, usually called a netbook computer by manufacturers, is a battery-or AC-powered personal computer generally smaller then a briefcase that can easily be transported and conveniently used in temporary spaces such as on airplanes, in libraries, temporary offices, and at meetings . a laptop typically weighs less than 5 pounds and is 3 inches or less in thickness. Among the best-known makers of laptop computers are IBM, apple, Compaq, dell, and Toshiba.
3. NOTEBOOK
Small and lightweight version of a portable computer
4. SUBNOTE BOOK
Smaller and Lighter Version of Notebook
5. PALMTOP COMPUTER
A small computer that literally fits in your palm. Compared to full-size computers, palmtops are severely limited, but they are practical for certain functions such as phone books and calendars. Palmtops that use a pen rather than a keyboard for input are often called hand-held computers or PDAs. Because of their small size, most palmtop computers do not include disk drives. Modems, memory, and other devices. Palmtops are also called PDAs, hand-held computers and pocket computers.
6. Mainframe Computer
It is high capacity and costly computer. It is largely used by big organizations where many people can use it simultaneously.
7. Super Computer
This category of computer is the fastest and also very expensive. A typical supercomputer can solve up to ten trillion individual calculations per second.
8. Workstation Computer
The computer of this category is a high-end and expensive one. It is exclusively made for complex work purpose.
9. Apple Macintosh (Mac)
It is a sort of personal computer manufactured by Apple company.
